Am I a Compassionate Person?

I learned today, not as much as I’d like to be.

You know, if I were to ask myself this question, I always thought the answer was “yes”. I care about people, I loathe injustices, dishonesty, and corruption; I vouch for the kind, meek, and humble.

But do I really?

If I’m to be honest with myself, the answer is, “No! I cannot say that I vouch for the kind, meek and humble.”

Why is that?

A simple reason.

I eat meat.

I LOVE meat. Bacon, steak, porkchops, chicken, seafood, sausage, brisket, turkey, etc., etc., etc. All types of meat, you name it. Even animal byproducts: eggs (which I consider meat), cheese, milk – even honey. And then, of course, you have the multitude of other products that contain these items:

egg: mayonnaise, baked goods, ice cream, pasta, salad dressing, and more.

milk, cheese, butter: packaged foods – like rice, pasta, seasonings, mashed potatoes, etc.

honey: not just used for foods and drinks, but can also be used for: lotions, face masks, lip balm, hair care, etc.

So why is this such a conundrum?

It started from a simple search on youtube. I asked myself, “What does it mean to be a compassionate person?”

As usual when searching on youtube, one thing led to another, and another, until I came across a few videos about how we treat animals. I watched a video from James Aspey – “This Speech Will Change Your Life”, and it certainly was a wake-up call to my hubris of thinking I was a truly compassionate person.

How can I, a person who strives to be compassionate and kind, justify myself into taking part in the meat market to continue and thrive? Even after knowing how cruelly they treat animals?

Well, the answer is, I can’t.

I know some of the counter-arguments:

  • God intended for man to eat animals.
  • Animals don’t feel pain and don’t know any better. Silly.
  • We need meat for health reasons.
  • We need to eat animals so they don’t over populate the world.
  • They’re mass produced for easier and cheaper marketing. And it’s convenient.
  • It’s a way of life. We were raised and conditioned to eat meat. Plus it tastes good.

And each point of these can be addressed with the exact reasons why it’s incorrect or misconstrued.

For instance:

  • (God intended for man to eat animals.) – If one is to take the word of the Bible literally, it is unmistakable that there are passages that will be misconstrued, mistranslated, misunderstood, etc. We have to come to terms that while most of us have been conditioned to believe that every word in the Bible is true, and while a lot of us want to believe in something “set in stone” to trust and have faith in, the fact of the matter is that the Bible being corrupted could be a very real possibility.
18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19 And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and the holy city, which are described in this book.
Revelation 22:18-19
3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
2 Timothy 4:3
11 “The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. 12 People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.
Amos 8:11-12

How do we know that this hasn’t happened already? Or that these verses weren’t changed, mistranslated, or just completely made up, etc., etc.?

We don’t.

Which is why “discernment”, with or without the Bible’s advice, is a very important skill to develop. Besides, there are plenty of atheists who reject animal cruelty and are vegetarians/vegans. Mostly because of pure, genuine, moral ethics. Which is the key point. Even if we were “allowed” to eat the flesh of animals, one must ask themselves how we would feel if we were in place of those animals: “Would I be okay with another being gorging on my flesh, and killing me in a most brutal way to get it?”

I’d like to think most of us would say no.

And yes, humans were once considered the only conscious beings, (which as scientific research has finally concluded, is false) so that gives us the choice to choose between being an omnivore, carnivore, herbivore. Animals, on the other hand, act more of a natural instinct – (by the way, humans are animals too…) – which begs the questions: If us humans keep giving ourselves credit that we’re the most evolved species on the planet, then why are humans the main pollutant and corruption of Earth? Why are there so many extinct animals thanks to the hands of humans?

…I digress (for now). On to the next topic…

  • (Animals don’t feel pain and don’t know any better. Silly.)Lol. I don’t even know where to start with this one. As anyone who has ever owned a pet, or has legitimately loved an animal or animals can attest, animals most certainly do feel pain, suffering, fear, love, sorrow, happiness, compassion… I honestly don’t know what to say to people who don’t believe that animals have emotions. Instead, I’m just going to show a few videos that might shed some light into it:

If, after watching these videos, one can still assume that animals don’t have emotions, then there must be something wrong with you. 🙁 Please see a therapist.

These videos show the gamut of emotions that animals have, including but not limited to: compassion for not only their own species, but that of others as well (such as the beautiful sweet-hearted dog that was trying to save the fishes by pushing water on to them with it’s nose – and the cat that saved a fish’s life by pushing it back into it’s aquarium. Not to mention the group of hippos that came to the rescue of a buffalo being attacked by a couple of crocodiles), love, excitement, concern, protectiveness, defensiveness, sadness, happiness, etc.

It also shows their thinking process; as when the two adult elephants were trying to save the baby elephant: instead of falling automatically into the water, they were smart enough to go around to the entrance of the water, so as to not hurt themselves. And the primate that was trying to save the bird: used an ingenius method by using a leaf for the bird to latch on to, to pull the bird up.

These are incredible insights into the minds of animals, and, consciousness or not, these animals show more kindness and compassion than some humans. And not just for their own species! Yet here humans are… being so divisive of skin color and cultural backgrounds and religious/political affiliations… I digress again.

  • (We need meat for health reasons.)Yes, meat has a lot of protein, B12, and even fish has the very important omega-3 acids. But these are also vitamins and nutrients that we can get from supplements – that aren’t extracted from animals. And there are many studies that show one can be just as healthy, if not healthier, by not eating meat at all. (Again, as long as you take natural supplements.)
  • I do want to mention on the flip side, eating healthy is a matter of self-control and discipline. Yes, one can be vegan and still be very unhealthy – as certain foods such as potatoes, rice – other starchy items aren’t good for you in large doses. And chocolate… lovely chocolate…

Plus deep fried foods? Definitely not healthy.

The point is, one can eat healthy without meat. It might not be easy, especially at first. We’re all conditioned to ignore the fact that certain things come from animals – and it depends on if you choose to be vegetarian or vegan. A vegan lifestyle is more strict, depending on the level you strive for: the strictest vegan will refuse to eat or use anything that comes from an animal, or even anything that has been tested on an animal.

Thankfully, there are tons of websites and cookbooks that help us with our shopping decisions and substitutions into the dishes we already love. Again, I love meat – cheeseburgers, meat lover’s pizza, I love eggs, the list goes on and on. The question I need to ask myself is, “Do I love the taste of these foods more than I love animals?” My answer is a resounding no. Which means I need to get on the road to changing my lifestyle not only for a clearer conscience, but also to no longer have a hand in the slaughter of billions/trillions of innocent animals.

And some might ponder, “Well, just because you don’t eat it doesn’t mean it’s still not in demand and that millions of others won’t continue to do it. So why not?” And perhaps you’re right. But just one more person to consciously make the decision to not eat meat might plant the seed for others to try it differently as well. Soon, it might help humanity reach the decision that to kill animals for food is extremely unnecessary in our day and age with as much abundance we have in other crops and produce.

There are a lot of substitutions we can use instead of meat, such as tofu, soy, mushrooms, beans, etc.
Vegan breakfast bowl using scrambled tofu to resemble and taste like eggs.

    • (We need to eat and hunt animals so they don’t over populate the world.) – Hm… I’m sure this reason is purely altruistic. What do you think?

The argument that we need to keep the animal population in check is an oversight. It’s an oversight to ignore the many animals that were killed, all in the name of sport – including a lot of large predators that would reduce the population of smaller animals quite naturally. Which would help keep the “circle of life” in a balanced, neutral, food-chain sort of environment.

If it weren’t for us over-hunting animals, I would say there’s a good chance that most animal species would prosper instead of going extinct due to either the aforementioned hunting, which in turn would take food away from the larger animals, thus perpetuating a shortage of food for them – resulting in them dying out from hunger, and so on and so forth.

And do I need to mention how many animals have been killed off or forced from their habitat due to the invasion of people building cities, establishments, paving roads, etc., etc., etc.? Or from people introducing a new animal species to an already existing habitat, only for that species to drive out or kill the current one?

Most of the animal species which have gone extinct are due to human hands – directly or indirectly:

These Animals Went Extinct in the Last 100 Years – animalsake.com

And due to the importance of the next article, I felt it prudent to include the complete, extremely long title (I took liberties with highlighting a keypoint in this title):

    Nature’s Dangerous Decline ‘Unprecedented’: Species Extinction Rates ‘Accelerating’ / Current global response insufficient; ‘Transformative changes’ needed to restore and protect nature;
Opposition from vested interests can be overcome for public good / Most comprehensive assessment of its kind; 1,000,000 species threatened with extinction

    • (They’re mass produced for easier and cheaper marketing. And it’s convenient.)
    • (It’s a way of life. We were raised and conditioned to eat meat. Plus it tastes good.)

For both of these points, I want to mention again, just because something is “acceptable” in society, or “easy” (everyone does it, so why not?) does not mean it’s a good idea. After all, in the past, slavery was a normal part of society – did that make it right? NO. In some countries, the practice of child marriages and arranged marriages still takes place. Does it make it right? NO. The Bible has a lot of incredulous rules that today would be considered barbaric punishment. Do we still practice them today? In some countries, sadly yes. But generally, NO.

We can’t keep using the excuse that it’s “normal” or “acceptable” to justify the actions to continue a certain “way of life”. Besides, who ultimately makes the decisions of what we can consider normal or who gives a nation/country permission to change the laws and decide what is “right” and “wrong”? There are too many government/scientific laws and rules that I believe actually infringe upon our rights as human beings, not to mention the laws “regulated” on animals’ rights. I won’t go into those topics in this post, since that would derail the subject even further.

In all honesty, I think the most truthful answer one can give as to why they will continue to eat meat, is simply that it tastes good. I can’t say I blame them. Being conditioned to eat meat and the variety of ways it cooks: grilled, simmered, pan-fried, baked, stewed, broiled, slow-cooked, etc. etc., it’s no wonder it’s a hard lifestyle to turn away from.

Perhaps it’s an addiction of sorts. But after all, it’s not like it’s known for causing cancer, like cigarettes; an actual addictive item. Sure meat can cause some health problems in certain people, especially if the consumption is not moderated, but generally, meat is relatively healthy – and tastes great to boot.

So the main factor comes down to, again, how compassionate are we? How willing are we to put aside our desire for flesh, for the welfare of consciously aware animals?

How to Feel Compassion for the Animals

I attempted to watch a video on youtube about slaughterhouses. I didn’t even last 23 seconds. And I closed my eyes before the first kill. This tells me that if I feel compassion for these animals, as we all should for any living being, then I should not be supporting this “meat market”. I will not post the video, I will leave that for every individual to decide on their own if they want to search it out and watch them. But beware. If you want to look into these, they show the very real and heartbreaking ways that animals are brutally treated and killed all in order to support our taste buds.

Of course one could say, “Well, sucks to be an animal. I’m glad I’m not one.” but let me propose this:

During my studies and research and my own experiences, I truly believe in the “life review” that we will all eventually see. Not only will we see the actions that we’ve done in this life, but we will also feel the actions that we have imposed on others, as if we are experiencing it ourselves. Some testimonies even claim that they were given clear instructions on what our purpose is here on this Earth.

A few examples of this are below:

“I heard a voice say to me ‘You have not fulfilled your purpose here.’

“And I said, ‘What was my purpose?’… I didn’t have a clue. I truly didn’t have a clue — how to live, what life was about, what it was to be a man, what my goals or purpose could have been. So I said ‘What was my purpose?’

“And this voice says to me, ‘The same as every man. You were put on the Earth to take care of the Earth…’ We, as men, are here to take care of the Earth. That’s one of our responsibilities, as men. It was very personal. He said, ‘You’re not to strip mine the Earth. You’re not to pollute the Earth. You’re not to destroy your home.’ And I was being indicted because I was responsible. I was a litterer. I was one that didn’t care about nature or the environment at all. And this was a beautiful home that God had created for me to live and enjoy.

“And He said, ‘Secondly, you’re here for the animals. They look up to you. You’re the one with the spirit. You’re the one with reason, with intelligence, with the strength to change things, the ability to protect them and take care of them and do for them. They don’t have that ability. And yet you destroy species after species.’ And I knew that I was responsible, partly responsible. I had hunted for sport. I had no concern for animals. I never showed any compassion — I didn’t have any compassion for animals or men.

“And He said, ‘Thirdly and most importantly, you’re here for each other. And you — this imperative, YOU — I sent to be part of the answer. You’ve just been part of the problem…’ And He began to try to teach me…”

    – Oliver John Calvert ( the-formula.org / youtube.com )

“EVERYTHING I ever thought, did, said, hated, helped, did not help, should have helped was shown in front of me, the crowd of hundreds and everyone like a movie. How mean I’d been to people, how I could have helped them, how mean I was (unintentionally also) to animals! Yes! Even the animals had feelings. It was horrible. I fell on my face in shame. I saw how my acting, or not acting, rippled in effect towards other people and their lives. It wasn’t until then, that I understood how each little decision or choice affects the World.”

    – Alexa H. ( the-formula.org / nderf.com )

“You will be responsible for yourself, judging and reliving what you have done to everything and everybody in very far-reaching ways. Very small, seemingly inconsequential things such as the day when I, nine years old, walked through Seneca Park and loved the appearance of a tree. In my life review I could experience a bit of what the tree experienced in my loving it, two little photons of love and adoration. It was somewhat like the leaves acknowledging my presence.

Can a tree experience that? Yes, it can. Don’t go kicking trees anymore! You do have that effect on plants. You do have an effect on animals. You do have an effect on the universe. And in your life review you’ll be the universe and experience yourself in what you call your lifetime and how it affects the universe.”

    – Thomas Sawyer ( near-death.com )

Of course we can’t just take the above testimonies for their word. Some could be fabricated, exaggerated, etc. But in conjunction with all of the other evidence – especially videos that show how animals interact with each other and other species, including us humans, it can no longer be denied that animals do, indeed, feel and go through the same emotions that we do.

And we have to ask ourselves, “What kind of fear and helplessness are these poor creatures going through, when they’re being mass-killed all in the name of our gratification?” “How would we feel, if we were in their place? Seeing our kin brutally slaughtered and knowing that we were next?”

These are questions I implore people to ponder before they buy their next meat package – knowing that the poor, innocent animal that unwillingly provided it was in so much fear and torment at the hands of the very species that was meant to protect them.

Not eating animals is probably going to be very hard for most people, especially if they enjoy the taste and it’s a normal part of their family/social life. To deviate from that is going to take willpower, dedication, and a very conscious awareness of their actions.

For me, I am taking the steps today. I cried watching the brief snippets of the slaughterhouses from the “This Speech Will Change Your Life” video. I do have compassion. As do a lot of people. And just because you eat meat doesn’t mean you don’t. But if I’m going to be the best version of a compassionate person as I can be, then I have to address this issue.

Again, I hope you will join me in at least considering it. And at the very least, spread compassion and love and gratitude for the people and animals/nature in our lives, and the animals/nature who sustain us.

    Near Death Experiences

What is the purpose of near death experiences?

I’ve researched this topic due to some past experiences I’ve had. And the insight and messages that near death experiences are trying to teach us is something SO important, SO significant, that I absolutely had to write a post about it.

I’ll be going over some of the more essential messages that I believe these experiences are trying to show us. I will be excited when people start searching for ways and reasons to better themselves and the world, and think we can all learn a valuable lesson in these people’s testimonies.

    Biblical Veracity?

One counter argument about this phenomena, is that it’s not biblical. So others warn people to be careful with these messages.

In some cases, I agree. After all, when we’re dealing with people’s accounts, we have to be discerning and come to a well-adjusted and unbiased opinion. However, on the other side of the coin, how do we know these accounts aren’t biblical? Is there anything in the bible that will support, or condemn this theory? Or perhaps not mention it at all?

With more researching and investigating, perhaps this answer will come to light. At the time, there is still so much material in the Bible and other sources to go through. But in the meantime, my personal opinion, due to testimony gathering and my own experiences and reasoning, have ultimately decided that it really just depends.

I know. Not really the definitive answer anyone was looking for. But when it comes to matters of the metaphysical, can anyone really say, for sure, that one thing is unequivocally, absolutely, positively, without a doubt, undeniably this one certain way?

If we’re being honest with ourselves, the answer is “no”. So all we really have to go on are our beliefs, experiences, and our interpretations.

With this in mind, I’d like to present some fascinating insight into some very important aspects of the near death experience.

Topics that are addressed (click on the link below to navigate the page):

Revelation - People experiencing essential visions.
Life Review - How did you live your life?
Spiritual Encounter - Incredible meetings with transcendent beings.
Love - One of the key messages from near death experiences.
Changing the World - Is this what nde's are trying to show us?
'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams."
    Acts 2:17

I won’t go into too much details about the biblical studies into near death experiences, but wanted to highlight the above quote. This points out to what amounts to some largely held debates of who can prophesy.

Some ministers and scholars say that modern day prophets don’t exist (unless they’re false prophets). But according to Acts 2:17, this is not entirely true. But how do we even define “prophet”? In Acts 2 it doesn’t say “prophet”. It just says that sons and daughters will prophesy, not that they are or have become “prophets”. And is a person considered “once a prophet, always a prophet?”

“Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy...All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines”
    1 Corinthians 12:7-12

Notice how the bolded text mentions “a message”, singular. Not messages, plural. Same with the word prophecy. It is singular. Not “prophecies”.

So wouldn’t it be just as likely that the Holy Spirit comes down and gives certain people certain messages (or a certain message) in order to help spread God’s word?

With those considerations in place, here are some interesting examples of some people's "revelations" about our future...

The following excerpts are from near-death.com. Please visit the website for more information.

    Howard Storm

In Howard Storm‘s book, My Descent into Death (2000), he describes the future of mankind as given to him by light beings he encountered during his NDE in 1985. Storm wrote how they told him, in 1985, that the Cold War would soon end, because:

“God is changing the hearts of people to love around the world.” Storm states, “Since the time in 1985 when I was told these things about the future the Cold War ended with little bloodshed due to the hearts of people being unwilling to tolerate oppressive regimes.”

    Howard Storm - (cont.)

Storm also described what the light beings told him concerning the way things will be on earth in about 2185. He asked the light beings the question: “Will the United States be the leader of the world in this change?” The light beings replied:

“The United States has been given the opportunity to be the teacher for the world, but much is expected of those to whom much has been given. The United States has been given more of everything than any country in the history of the world and it has failed to be generous with the gifts. If the United States continues to exploit the rest of the world by greedily consuming the world’s resources, the United States will have God’s blessing withdrawn. Your country will collapse economically which will result in civil chaos.

Because of the greedy nature of the people, you will have people killing people for a cup of gasoline. The world will watch in horror as your country is obliterated by strife. The rest of the world will not intervene because they have been victims of your exploitation. They will welcome the annihilation of such selfish people.

The United States must change immediately and become the teachers of goodness and generosity to the rest of the world. Today the United States is the primary merchant of war and the culture of violence that you export to the world. This will come to an end because you have the seeds of your own destruction within you. Either you will destroy yourselves or God will bring it to an end if there isn’t a change.”

    Elaine Durham

The seat of power will move away from Washington, D.C because there will be so much turmoil and warfare on the eastern side of America. America will come to the very edge of destruction because Americans have chosen to seek worldly things rather than loving or serving others, and because they refused to care for their precious natural resources, and because their greed and selfishness. The U.S. government will lose most of its power and no longer govern completely and lawlessness will reign on the eastern side of America as well as tremendous anarchy and crime.

There will be less turmoil on the western side of America and even a certain amount of prosperity. A new seat of power will rise near present-day Kansas City. From this location, a true spiritual force will become the governing power over the whole land — a power such that emanates from Christ.

    George Ritchie

The world will grow more peaceful – both humanity and nature.
Humans will not be as critical of themselves or others.
Humans will not be as destructive to nature.
Humans will begin to understand what love is.

The examples I gave above were but a mere introduction to this topic; since there are a ton of testimonies that relay prophetic revelations.

It’s interesting that a lot of nde’s focus on the state of the world and how we’re growing increasingly more corrupt and greedy. The desire for material possessions consumes a lot of people, unfortunately. And our inconsideration for each other, and nature, may very well be our downfall. Nde’s seems to serve as a warning for us to change our ways, or something dire will happen.

Thankfully, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As some near death experiencers recall, there is a way to reverse all this damage. George Ritchie, Howard Storm and many others mention in their near death experiences that people will change for the better. But it takes awareness, love and compassion to get there.

While reading through some people’s testimonies, I became fascinated with “life reviews”. When people go through these, most of them come out of the experience with a new outlook on life. That being, one of the reasons that we’re here is to see how we treat each other. One of the key takeaways from nde’s is that our actions affect others, sometimes in ways that we can’t even imagine.

During life reviews, we get the chance to see just how we’re affecting others. Sometimes with, quite literally, life-altering results. (Which, I’d imagine, is the point.)

The testimonies below provide a perfect example of “walking in someone’s shoes”.

    Oliver John Calvert

He also saw what he had done to others — how he had made them think and feel. Now, he felt it, experiencing the “fear intimidation, neglect, sarcasm, harsh criticism, coarse jokes, ridicule. I saw their faces and I felt what I had put them through, at that point. I was made to feel everything and it came all at once.” – Oliver John Calvert (spiritdailyblog.com)

    Laura M.

My life flashed before me; a life review was in order. When it was over, my head was hung in shame for He had seen it too. I was not happy about many, many of my actions. Then, in awe, I turned to Him asking, “How can you still love me so completely after witnessing my many sins?”

“You are a child of God,” He said, “and God Is Love. I see you purely as Love.” – Laura M. (the-formula.org)

    Kimberly Clark Sharp

When the woman was a little girl, she saw a tiny flower growing almost impossibly out of a crack in the sidewalk. She bent down and cupped the flower and gave it her full unconditional love and attention.

When the girl became a woman and had an NDE, during her life review she discovered that it was this incident with the flower that was the most important event of her entire life. The reason was because it was the moment where she expressed her love in a greater, purer, and unconditional manner.

This example of a life review by Kimberly Clark Sharp is one of my favorite examples because it shows in a dramatic way a principle that appears in many life reviews. The principle is that the actions we think are unimportant may turn out to be the most important act we have ever done in our life. Unconditional and spontaneous acts of love are the greatest acts we can perform – even if it is directed at a tiny flower. – Kimberly Clark Sharp (near-death.com)

    Carter Mills

Carter Mills saw himself when he was a child and killed a mother bird with a sling shot. At the time, he was so proud of that shot; but during his life review, he felt the pain that the mother bird’s babies went through when they starved to death. – Carter Mills (near-death.com)

    Rick R.

Then without warning, it happened! ‘What have you done with your life?’ The voice penetrated my very being! I had no answer! Then to my right I saw what seemed to be like a movie; and I was in it! I saw my mother giving me birth, my childhood and friends! I saw everything from my youth up! I saw everything I had ever done before my eyes!

As my life played out before my very eyes, I tried to think of good things I had done. I was raised in church and had been very active in church functions, yet as I pondered on this, I saw a man in his car that had ran out of gas. I had stopped and given him a lift to a local store about a year ago. I had bought him some gas as he had no money and helped him get on his way!

I thought to myself, why am I seeing this? The voice was loud and clear. You took no thought to help this soul and asked nothing in return! These actions are the essence of good!

I saw all the people I had hurt as well and was shown how my actions had set in motion the actions of others! I was stunned! I had never thought of my life having an effect on the actions that friends, family, and others I had met would take! I saw the results of all I had done! I was not pleased at all! I looked on until the events ended. Indeed, I had done so little with my life! I had been selfish and cruel in so many ways! I was truly sorry I had done so little. – Rick R. (nderf.org)

    Betty Eadie

“Then I saw the disappointment that I had caused others, and I cringed as their feelings of disappointment filled me, compounded by my own guilt. I understood all the suffering I had caused, and I felt it. I began to tremble. I saw how much grief my bad temper had cased, and I suffered this grief. I saw my selfishness, and my heart cried for relief. How had I been so uncaring?

Then in the midst of my pain, I felt the love of the council come over me. They watched my life with understanding and mercy. Everything about me was taken into consideration, how I was raised, the things I had been taught, the pain give me by others, the opportunities I had received or not received. And I realized that the council was not judging me. I was judging myself. Their love and mercy were absolute.

I was shown the ripple effect, as they described it. I saw how I had often wronged people and how they had often turned to others and committed a similar wrong. This chain continued from victim to victim, like a circle of dominoes, until it came back to the start – to me, the offender. The ripples went out, and they came back. I had offended far more people than I knew, and my pain multiplied and became unbearable.”

    Betty Eadie - (cont.)

“Then he showed me the reversed side of the ripple effect. I saw myself perform an act of kindness, just a simple act of unselfishness, and I saw the ripples go out again. The friend I had been kind to was kind in turn to one of her friends, and the chain repeated itself.

I saw love and happiness increase in others’ lives because of that one simple act on my part. I saw their happiness grow and affect their lives in positive ways, some significantly. My pain was replaced with joy. I felt the love they felt, and I felt their joy, and this from one simple act of kindness. A powerful thought hit me, and I repeated it over and over in my mind:

“Love is really the only thing that matters”.

    Betty Eadie (near-death.com)

It’s interesting to note, during our life reviews, it is usually not any divine beings passing off judgment on us. They simply present our life to us, and we end up going through the emotions and feelings of the other person (or nature). And it affects us so deeply – since it is an experience that we don’t normally have on Earth.

Empathy seems to be a foreign concept to a lot of people. So to be suddenly hit with it in such a large dose, and then realizing that it was YOU who caused all the hurt and pain others have gone through, is such an eye-opener and profound epiphany. The awareness one gleans from this is bound to make a significant impact on their life.

And for those who refuse to believe that consciousness can exist outside of a human mind/body/soul, near death experiences would beg to differ. Even a tiny plant can feel love and reciprocate. Same with animals.

Perhaps life reviews are to teach us humility, empathy, and awareness; that our actions affect everything in remarkable ways.

Many people claim to see divine beings while having a near death experience.
Angelic beings? Jesus Christ? People claim to see many different heavenly beings while having a near death experience.

Image by Karin Henseler from Pixabay

So now we get to the various entities that people have claimed to encounter. This ranges from angelic beings, to different deities from many different religions/cultures, to saints, to even God Himself. One well known entity many have claimed to have met is Jesus Christ.

Now, I did raise the issue earlier about whether nde’s are biblical. And it is a very important question for a lot of people. Some without a religious background accept the idea of nde’s without a qualm. Those that do believe in the Bible have their reservations. And there are other Christians that believe in it whole-heartedly.

This is where discernment is extremely important. Yes, we want to make sure the messages we’re receiving is not an attempt to mislead, so we do want to be consciously aware and question these sources.

For the majority of nde testimonies, it’s clear that the message they deliver is one of love and treating each other with kindness. This is an exact teaching of Jesus Christ. That was one of His main commandments:

30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
    Mark 12:30-31

This is just one example of how I think it would help to discern a near death experience. If it teaches love and compassion, that seems like a good indicator. There are some stories that I do feel uncomfortable with …so I always want to encourage everyone to pray, use their best discernment, and stay aware.

Below are some amazing testimonies of people’s encounters with divine beings from “the other side”.

    Jeffrey C.

I saw a man in a robe who was about 40 years old with a trimmed beard and a balding head. I thought he looked like a monk, and wondered to myself if this was Judas. After a long time, my eyes began to burn so badly, I finally decided that it was worth it to put up with the bad flashes if I could just close my eyes for a while. I began to sob quietly as the flashes of my evil ways rushed in, and I heard a voice. It said, ‘If you ask him, maybe he will save you.’ I thought to myself, ‘How?’ The voice said, ‘Say it. Say the words, Jesus Christ my savior in heaven, please save me.’ I said the words out loud. The voice said, ‘ Again’ and so I said it again, and again, and again. The screaming stopped, and then the flashes stopped. It was silent.

As I looked up, I saw a man sitting in a giant stone chair. There was a silver-winged creature next to him who had a helmet with wings on it. There was a woman on his left. She had some very old men behind her. We were on a platform in space, but the stars were eyes instead. I realized that this was Jesus and the creature on his right was the angel of the lord, and woman on his left was The Blessed Virgin Mary. I can only guess that the old men had to be Abraham, Moses, or one of those important people; maybe the disciples Peter, Paul, or someone. Jesus had a look of disappointment on his face that touched me to my soul and made me feel so ashamed.

The Angel of the Lord said, ‘Tell our lord what brings you here.’ I began to explain that I felt that the world was not a fair place and I didn’t want to be a part of it anymore. He looked at me as if I was crazy and asked, ‘Who told you it was going to be a fair world?’ I really didn’t understand.

    Jeffrey C. - (cont.)

I found myself back on the platform before Jesus. The Blessed Mother asked me what I thought of what I learned. I told her I thought it wasn’t right that I had to put up with people hurting me, that Jesus was suppose to protect me, and if I was going to go back that I wanted him to make it right. He looked at me and said, ‘My son, I can not cause pain to another, I can only heal those who are broken.’

With the arrogance of youth, I tried to pull the old ‘I want to talk to the manager’ routine and demanded to talk to God. The Blessed Mother said, ‘You can not ‘see’ God.’ Jesus spoke up and said, ‘No one can see God.’ The blessed mother was angry and told me to kneel before this great healer and ask forgiveness. I knelt down. I could feel the great disappointment and astonishment at my arrogance.

I began to weep, and Jesus ask, ‘Do you know why I saved you from the pit of purgatory?’ I replied, ‘No’. He said, ‘Remember the old man, the one you thought was Judas? This showed me that you believe, you truly believe.’ I realized at that moment that Jesus was with me, and had been with me the whole time. He was always with me, throughout everything that has happened. And my belief means way more than I had ever realized. He saw something in me that even I did not see. I began to weep so badly that I was frozen there on the floor with my head in my hands and crying uncontrollably. – Jeffrey C. (nderf.org)

    Sheila S.

And then I turned around and all sudden I see Jesus! BAM! It hit me so hard with His love! It just knocked me down! And I knew right away who it was. There was no doubt who it was. It was Jesus! And I fell down on my knees because the love that was coming from him was so intense that I couldn’t even stand up.

I remember before dying, that a long time ago, I was told that ‘No man could stand before Jesus or God.’ I thought, ‘Well, why would that be?’ I mean, ‘Would He beat you down or something?’ I never understood why they would say that. Now I know why; it is because his love is so mighty, that I can’t even describe it. This love is so intense that I could not stand because it just knocked me over.

Anyway, I’m on my knees and I’m looking at Him like I was ashamed, with my hands over my face and peeking up at Him. I don’t want to look straight at Him because He was looking at me with so much love. I didn’t feel worthy of it. I don’t know why I would feel that way because I’m not bad person. – Sheila S. (nderf.org)

    Maureen K.

What I know to be the energy of Angels greeted me with the tenderest warmest energy. I felt embraced by them. They morphed into billowy forms and surrounded me. Their hearts glowed radiating and pulsing with light of vibrant colors. From my heart which glowed dimly as well, I could sense, feel, and hear telepathically.

I sent an energy wave from my Higher Heart to the heart of the energy of the angels. They sensed I had a question for them. I sensed it was okay for me to send them my questions. From my glowing heart waves, I asked them if what I was experiencing was real.

The angels responded telepathically that their realm was real. I then asked them if I was there with them if that meant that I was dead. They responded telepathically that my body died so my soul or Higher Heart was visiting them.

For the first time since I arrived, I felt fear, like I had known in the earthly realm, form within my Higher Heart. They responded to my fear instantly by dissolving it for me. I felt embraced by their energy. I sensed that legions of energy beings with the most subtle presence were sending me comfort. – Marueen K. (nderf.org)

These amazing encounters show that although we may not have led exemplary lives on Earth, the beings are still encouraging us with a never-ending love. Some people have also mentioned that they reunited with loved ones that have passed away, that are trying to teach them the art of love and kindness as well.

And it has to be said, along with Jesus Christ, God, angels, saints, etc., some people have also encountered the “not so savory” characters.

These are accounts of people confronting demons, evil spirits, and even satan.

    Howard Pittman

When we started the tour of the second heaven, the angels began by showing me the different types of demons. Each demon was revealed to me in a form that indicated his area of expertise, and I soon discovered that there is no such thing as a “general practitioner” in all the demon world. The demons are all experts in their fields. They have only one area of expertise which they do very well.

“At one time during this tour of the second heaven, I watched the demons within their own related group and I experienced an awful feeling. It was an overwhelming, oppressive, and morbid feeling. This feeling came to me shortly after I had entered the second heaven and I wondered what was causing it.

It was at this time that I learned that the angels could read my mind because my guardian angel said to me, “That feeling you are wondering about is caused by the fact that there is no love in this world.” The angel was telling me that in this second heaven there is not one bit of love!

Wow! Can you imagine all of those demons serving a master they don’t love and the master ruling over beings that he doesn’t love? Worse than that, their companions are working together for an eternity and they do not even love each other. – Howard Pittman – (howardpittman.com)

    Charles T.

I sensed evil around me and even though I thought I could move about, I froze because of fear. I thought I was alone until I saw three demon like figures standing by my feet and talking in three different languages.

I was laying on a cold slab in a dark chamber of what I found out later to be Hell. While the demons were talking and looking down at me, there was a tiny light coming from behind them and I could see their silhouettes. They were about three to four feet high with skinny bodies, arms, and legs.

The light behind them was getting bigger and closer so I quit looking at the demons and concentrated on the light. Because of an earlier experience in my life, I knew the light to be Jesus Christ. He engulfed me in His light and took my spirit and soul out of Hell. He replaced them in my physical body in order to live again. – Charles T. – (nderf.org)

    Alexa H.

EVERYTHING I ever thought, did, said, hated, helped, did not help, should have helped was shown in front of me, the crowd of hundreds and everyone like a movie.

How mean I’d been to people, how I could have helped them, how mean I was (unintentionally also) to animals! Yes! Even the animals had had feelings.

It was horrible. I fell on my face in shame. I saw how my acting, or not acting, rippled in effect towards other people and their lives. It wasn’t until then, that I understood how each little decision or choice affects the World. The sense of letting my Savior down was too real. Strangely, even during this horror, I felt a compassion, an acceptance of my limitations by Jesus and the crowd of Others.

During this Review, the Evil being was there. I looked at him; he was handsome, not ugly. Black hair, medium build, dressed in a brown robe w/black cord at his waist, his eyes caught my attention. They were a black void! There was no life or goodness in them. Intense in every way, his only Purpose was to possess, own, control my very Soul and make me suffer!!

I shrank back in horror. Every time, during the Review, that I erred or failed, he enjoyed it immensely. He would shout out, “THERE! See how she messed up?” He would accuse me, “Why didn’t she do better? Or help more? She ought to be punished!”

I was desolate. My few, little good works didn’t and couldn’t measure up to God’s perfect standard. I deserved any punishment I got. My soul was desolate. I lay dreading what would happen. – Alexa H. (nderf.org)

Another really fascinating account is told by Howard Storm with his near death experiences. He has had visitations to hell, Heaven; met with angels, demons, Jesus Christ and has had his whole life uprooted from a professor of arts to a Christian minister.

Visitations to hell and encounters with demons are not that common, but have been experienced. And interestingly, in order to escape these demonic entities, calling out to Jesus/God and looking toward the light has rescued them.

If only we can enact that on Earth; turn from our sins and start treating each other with kindness. After all, it seems as if that’s what the heavenly beings are trying to teach us.

I’m sure you’ve seen by now what one of the main purposes of our life is. As of this paragraph, I have already used the word “love” 35 (well, now 36) times. And I haven’t even gotten to this part yet! Another thing to mention, I did not go out of my way to search for this word. This is what showed up naturally while searching for excerpts that fit in which each theme.

So why IS love so important? Why is that such a focus of nde’s? Why does Jesus preach this in the Bible?

A lot of near death experiences seem to try to give us insights into this powerful force.

    Bronwen C.

Suddenly I was no longer in this room, but facing an enormously tall angel. Surrounding both of us was radiant light. I knew this angel, and he knew me. I felt no fear, only joy and immense happiness.

We communicated non-verbally. The angel was ‘reminding’ me of the power of LOVE that was actually THE power of the universe. It seemed that I already knew this, but ‘he’ was just reminding me. – Bronwen C. (nderf.org)

    Katherine L.

I had deep respect and reverence for these beings. I felt that they loved me completely and without any judgment. In psychology there’s a term to describe this called ‘unconditional positive regard.’ I felt completely sure that they had this feeling for me. This surety felt like a warm glow of light around me.

The conclusion of these conversations was that it wasn’t so much a decision of doing the ‘wrong’ thing in situations, or making unwise choices, but that the times of greatest challenge for me were times in which I could have acted but chose inaction.

It was concluded that when I returned to earth, I must choose action and use my experiences and feelings to guide these actions so that they be an act of love. – Katherin L. (nderf.org)

    Melinda G.

I learned that everything we do matters. Even the person you smile to on your way to the bakery or work. Even the creatures big and small that you bend over to pet. Nothing goes unnoticed. It all matters. My purpose is to stand up for the meek, to be compassionate, but most of all is to love. Melinda G. (nderf.org)

    Heather V.

Then I began getting an information download. There was no talking, just information going into me with absolute love. It was very clear, very loud, and very certain, that We are ALL VERY IMPORTANT TO GOD. We are all deeply, deeply loved by God and that Life is suppose to be hard but that it is some sort of proving Ground for God to create him.

The message was that our lives are deeply important to God and to the existance of the universe. Our Love we have and the love we cultivate on earth, especially for people we have a hard time liking, that love somehow expands the universe and does some very important things.

I felt that there was something at stake, that we have a very important job to do. Human Beings are beloved and our choice in how to act is given to us to prove God. I don’t know how to describe it, I am trying hard to explain it here but it’s hard to explain. It may take my lifetime to explain what I learned.

IN this place we go to, we will have lightness, laughter and joy, and our soul family is there waiting for us. Our jobs on earth are to find out how to break through all these illusory walls everywhere that we erect to hide who we are. We need to really love each other and love ourselves.

I felt as though there was a sense of humor too. I was like a deep appreciation for our lives and even for our failures. We are suppose to learn from our failures and not beat outself up over them. We find a way to forgive and love ourselves because in reality, in the real place of creation, there is only Love. It seemed the message was that if we couldn’t find a path to love, then we are destroying something very very precious. – Heather V. (nderf.org)

    Tonja BB

During your experience, did you gain information about the meaning of life?

Yes We are here to learn how to truly love one another. When we have learned how to love each other, we get to move forward. I am not sure if this means reincarnation until we get it right or what but the answer to life is love one another. Tonja BB (nderf.org)

    Mary Jo Rapini

“Then God asked me… He said ‘let me ask you one question’. ‘Have you ever loved another person the way you have been loved here’. The love I had received in that time was so overpowering… I had never felt anything like it so I answered God honestly. I said, ‘No…it is impossible…I am just a human, you are God’. He gave me the illusion of a sweet protective chuckle. He then said, ‘Mary, you can do better’.” – Mary Jo Rapini (the-formula.org)

There is so much important information about love that many near death experiences talk about. The majority of them saying that it is the most important thing in the universe.

I wrote a whole post just on “love” and, trust me, I could’ve written a whole book on this one topic.

Now, one thing I have to bring up. The Bible quote from earlier: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” This quote is taken from Mark 12, but did you know that Jesus seemed to have changed this commandment? In John 13, he now says:

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
    John 13:34

Did you notice any significant changes?

As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Jesus’s love is completely unconditional. This new commandment is telling us that no longer should we love our neighbors as ourselves, because our love as we know it isn’t sufficient. It is sad, but true. Most of us don’t know how to love unconditionally. When we love someone or something, we expect love in return. This is not what true love is all about.

And this is what Jesus is trying to teach us. Everyone is deserving of love. And completely true, unselfish, genuine love would not expect anything, nor exclude anyone.

Imagine if this force was practiced on every single person on the planet. Instead of hate, greed, pride, power… we actually care about and truly love our fellow human beings. What would our world be like?

And here we get to the Master Plan.

    Chris Batts

“One time, my angels gave me specific messages on humility. Being humble is being strong enough to accept imperfections in yourself and in others.

The first key to humility is to appreciate what people do for you. Tell people how important they are to you. Tell them you love them. They just may need to hear it at the exact time that you are around. Don’t hold back.

Next, respect people’s views, no matter what their backgrounds, races, or religions. Even if you disagree with an opinion, understand that there is always a reason why people act or think the way they do. No one is perfect. If we were perfect, we would be boring.

The last key to being humble is forgiveness. Continue to do good to people even when they screw you over. The best way to kill hate is to love someone. Just because someone is a certain way does not mean you have to be the same way. You don’t have to be bigger but you have to be smarter and wiser.

Show love. Hate will come back to you if you show hate. Misery is the result. That is no way for anyone to live.” – Chris Batts (ndestories.org)

    Nicole Dron

“I was shown that we were at a crossroads. I experienced this in 1968. I was told there would be an unemployment growth that would spread across the globe. Everything was flourishing at the time.

I was told about a plague that would spread all over the world. And I was shown everything that could happen on Earth if we didn’t change — and this ‘if” is of critical importance. It’s our piece of freedom in a way.

I was shown that things are unfortunately happening these days, as earthquakes, environmental issues, tsunamis, etc. But what I saw, and what worries me the most, is the emergence of unbelievable violence. This violence scared me. We are all somehow responsible for it.” – Nicole Dron (the-formula.org)

    May, James & Rashad

The guides taught us that doctrine and creed and race meant nothing. No matter what we believed we were all children joined under one God, and that the only rule was God’s true law — do unto others as you would have them do unto you. We should treat all people as if they were a part of our soul because they were. All living things in the universe were connected to one another.

They said that soon humanity would mature enough to assume a higher place in the universal scheme of things, but until then we must learn acceptance and tolerance and love for each other. They said there would come a new age when people would not be able to endure seeing others homeless and hungry. We would realize that only by helping each other could we truly help ourselves. – May, James & Rashad (the-formula.org)

    Tricia Barker

There is a great need for healing and love in this world and if we are willing to be conduits of that love, lives can be transformed. The angels were the point at which my consciousness completely changed. I like to think that many other people’s realities have shifted in beautiful ways as they became more aware of their light, their connection to Source, and their ability to heal and create a more positive future for themselves and their loved ones while on their educational journey.

I am grateful every day for the life I returned to after my near-death experience. I am no longer limited in my thinking, but I am connected to a universe of love that wants to be brought into this world in large and small ways. We can all do our part to bring in this love in all of our interactions with others. – Tricia Barker (ndestories.org)

    Howard Storm

I’m like, OK, you shot down my idea, what’s you’re idea of what would I do? And he said, love the person that you’re with. And I said, OK, great, I’ll do that. No problem. What do you want me to do? He said, I just told you what I want you to do: love the person that you’re with. And I said, Yeah, but after I do that, what do you really want me to do? No, that is what I want you to do: love the person that you’re with. I said well, that’s simple enough, that’s easy, I can do that. And he said, oh really. Well, that’s what I want you to do. That’s enough. And I said, how is it enough? He said, if you do that, you’ll change the world. [...snip...] The way that I want you to change the world is by loving the person you are with. Wait a minute, that’s a contradiction. You want me to change the world but you just want me to love the person I’m with? Yes, that’s the plan; that’s The Big Plan… If you love the person that you’re with, then they will go out and love the person that they’re with, and they will go out and love the person they’re with and it will be like a chain reaction and love will conquer the world and everyone will love one another. That’s God’s Big Plan. - Howard Storm (the-formula.org)

“All it takes to make a change was one person. One person, trying, and then because of that, another person changing for the better. They said that the only way to change the world was to begin with one person. One will become two, which will become three, and so on. That’s the only way to affect a major change.” Howard Storm (near-death.com)

    Is the world changing?

Sometimes it may not seem like it. There is still violence, war, hatred, racism, etc.

But with more and more awareness, and love and compassion, I truly believe that the world is changing for the better. It’s very heartening to see more videos coming out about people’s experiences; more testimonies with people no longer afraid to share their accounts; and an increase in people’s interest to “wake up” and look around to see what’s really going on in the world.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
    Ephesians 6:12

Dark forces are trying to bring us down, away from the light and love. But God, Jesus, the Heavenly host, they are trying to bring us back.

Can you imagine a world without love? How dark, sad, violent, and lonely it would be? If some people grow up without love, just imagine the horrors and corruption they must have suffered through.

We all need love, even our worst enemy. And this is what Jesus Christ is trying to teach us. We can change the world, one person at a time.
