“You Will Hear of Wars and Rumors of Wars” – But What Happens AFTER? | The Destined Conclusion

While our world seems to be heading into a pit of despair and chaos – there is redemption.

While things around us may seem “doom and gloom” and hopeless, I would like to remind the readers of what’s inevitably to happen.

Many of us who have read/studied the Bible may be familiar with this verse:

“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.Matthew 24:6

And certainly we can see (hear) that happening all around us, especially with the advent of “news” media and the internet – spreading mis/dis/information far and wide to every country imaginable.

And with the press being largely bought and paid for, at least in the mainstream front, we are only told what “they” want us to know – whether it is factually correct or not.

However, what “they” of course won’t focus on, is the light at the end of the tunnel.

That’s where this post comes in.

The Silver Lining

So yes, we will have wars and news of wars, we will have troubles and tribulations, but what comes after all of that? What does the future hold?

Well, for those who remain faithful and devoted to Jesus Christ and His teachings, who have repented and live as divinely inspired as possible – who have learned to live humbly and love their neighbors (and enemies) – a whole different world is waiting.

The collection below is a brief compilation of some glimpses of what will happen (or perhaps is already happening in some instances) and what it ultimately leads to. While most of these are anecdotal accounts, I have added in some biblical references that does, indeed, lend credence to these visions.

Though please keep in mind, I cannot attest to everything that these near death experiencers are relating – if they are embellishing or completely making up their visions, etc. (I would also like to point out the matter of discernment – since I do believe that some people will take this opportunity to push false doctrines – or fall into deception by beings that can “masquerade as an angel of light“.) I offer them here as testimonial accounts to consider – and I by no means am going to say straight out that it didn’t happen. I have had my own experiences that I couldn’t explain and that is what led me to finding the Bible/Jesus Christ in the first place, as well as finding out about near death experiences that have received the same messages.

They are eerily similar – and it boils down to one, extremely important thing: unconditional love.

While Jesus Christ’s reign WILL happen, how we get there is another matter. Can we get there without so much pain and suffering? Will we wake up and change and prepare ourselves and others for His arrival? Or will we continue to plunder ourselves deeper into despair and chaos and violence?

“How did you love?”

“What did you do to help others?”

“I was shown that we were at a crossroads. I experienced this in 1968. I was told there would be an unemployment growth that would spread across the globe. Everything was flourishing at the time. I was told about a plague that would spread all over the world. And I was shown everything that could happen on Earth if we didn’t change — and this ‘if” is of critical importance. It’s our piece of freedom in a way. I was shown that things are unfortunately happening these days, as earthquakes, environmental issues, tsunamis, etc. But what I saw, and what worries me the most, is the emergence of unbelievable violence. This violence scared me. We are all somehow responsible for it.

Near-Death Experiences That Predict The End Of The World

Angela Williams

“I remember asking God, ‘How does this end?’ You know what I mean? ‘Is everything going to be okay?’ I had that curiosity. And the light parted and I was shown Earth from above and I saw these silver streaks coming off of Earth… I knew God was showing me peace on Earth… He was showing me and telling me at the same time, and I don’t know how to explain that, but that was one thing that was so prevalent… it’s like the past, present and future is all happening at the same time… When I looked at Earth, I immediately knew that it was peace on Earth that I was looking at, but I [also] knew that it was in the future and it was not in my lifetime. God told me that. He was showing me, yes, it does happen, there is going to be peace on Earth. But I immediately knew it was not in my lifetime.

Near-Death Experiences That Predict The End Of The World

Reinee Pasarow

“The vision of the future I received during my near-death experience was one of tremendous upheaval in the world as a result of our general ignorance of TRUE reality. The ultimate reality is our spiritual reality — that constant, lasting, abiding reality that doesn’t change with the whims, fancies, and vicissitudes of the human world. I was informed that humanity was breaking the laws of the universe, and as a result of this would suffer. The suffering was not due to vengeance of an indignant God, but rather like the pain one might suffer as a result of arrogantly defying the law of gravity. It was to be an inevitable, educational cleansing of the Earth that would creep up upon its inhabitants, who would try to hide blindly in the institutions of politics, science, and religion. Humanity, I was told, was consumed by the cancers of arrogance, materialism, racism, selfishness, greed, chauvinism, and separatist thinking. I saw sense turning to nonsense, and calamity, in the end, turning to providence.

“With this destruction came the destruction of our physical environment, because we were totally unaware of our impact upon physical reality. Along with this great polarization and division among the people, I also saw a great breakdown in love, and that brought a great breakdown of our natural systems. First a hole appeared in the sky, and then the sky broke. The earth began to fracture, to break apart, reflecting the polarization and breaking apart of human society. The sky, and then the earth, broke and shattered as a result of our toxic and polluted hearts. Love is so VERY CRITICAL to our wellbeing as a people, and a lack of it only brings destruction.

“At the end of this general period of transition, humanity was to be ‘born anew’ with a new sense of our place in the universe. The birth process, however, as in all kingdoms, was exquisitely painful. Humanity would emerge humbled yet educated, peaceful, and, at last, unified.

Near-Death Experiences That Predict The End Of The World

Howard Storm

” – Jesus showed me a future in 200 years which was like a paradise. I figured he was serious about that. I did ask him how we’re going to get there and he said, “One of two ways.” I said, “Well, tell me how we’re going to do it.” He said, “The way God wants is for people to come to God and to be kinder and more loving. Of course much more respectful of the planet and of each other and it’ll come about very rapidly… because God is really unhappy with what we are doing with each other and the planet.”

Near-Death Experiences That Predict The End Of The World

Continuing with more of Howard Storm’s revelations, are some excerpts from the following site:

Howard Storm

“When I spoke with them about the future, and this might sound like a cop-out on my part, they made clear to me that we have free will.

If we change the way we are, then we can change the future which they showed me. They showed me a view of the future, at the time of my experience, based upon how we in the United States were behaving at that time. It was a future in which a massive worldwide depression would occur. If we were to change our behavior, however, then the future would be different.

“My friends explained, quite clearly, that all it takes to make a change was one person. One person, trying, and then because of that, another person changing for the better. They said that the only way to change the world was to begin with one person. One will become two, which will become three, and so on. That’s the only way to affect a major change.”

Howard Storm’s Near-Death Experience

Howard Storm

The future that they showed me was almost no technology at all. What everybody, absolutely everybody, in this euphoric future spent most of their time doing was raising children. The chief concern of people was children, and everybody considered children to be the most precious commodity in the world.

And when a person became an adult, there was no sense of anxiety, nor hatred, nor competition.

There was this enormous sense of trust and mutual respect. If a person, in this view of the future, became disturbed, then the community of people all cared about the disturbed person falling away from the harmony of the group. Spiritually, through prayer and love, the others would elevate the afflicted person.

What people did with the rest of their time was that they gardened, with almost no physical effort. They showed me that plants, with prayer, would produce huge fruits and vegetables.

People, in unison, could control the climate of the planet through prayer. Everybody would work with mutual trust and the people would call the rain, when needed, and the sun to shine.

Animals lived with people, in harmony.

People, in this best of all worlds, weren’t interested in knowledge; they were interested in wisdom. This was because they were in a position where anything they needed to know, in the knowledge category, they could receive simply through prayer. Everything, to them, was solvable. They could do anything they wanted to do.

In this future, people had no wanderlust, because they could, spiritually, communicate with everyone else in the world. There was no need to go elsewhere. They were so engrossed with where they were and the people around them that they didn’t have to go on vacation. Vacation from what? They were completely fulfilled and happy.

Death, in this world, was a time when the individual had experienced everything that he or she needed to experience. To die meant to lie down and let go; then the spirit would rise up, and the community would gather around. There would be a great rejoicing, because they all had insight into the heavenly realm, and the spirit would join with the angels that came down to meet it. They could see the spirit leave and knew that it was time for the spirit to move on; it had outgrown the need for growth in this world. Individuals who died had achieved all they were capable of in this world in terms of love, appreciation, understanding, and working in harmony with others.

The sense I got of this beautiful view of the world’s future was as a garden, God’s garden. And in this garden of the world, full of all beauty, were people. The people were born into this world to grow in their understanding of the Creator. Then to shed this skin, this shell, in the physical world, and to graduate and move up into heaven there, to have a more intimate and growing relationship with God.”

Howard Storm’s Near-Death Experience

Covering the same topic, is another retelling by Howard Storm of what the future holds:

Source: youtube | sunfellow | Howard Storm – The Future of the World

Howard Storm

“The world that they showed me in the near future, in a couple hundred years from now, is a world that is difficult for me to understand or accept. There was a – what I saw was no visible signs of technology. If there was technology they hid it from me. Or it was so subtle that I didn’t even – I couldn’t even see it. You know, maybe that’s the case. But I assume that like in the future it would be a world of like high technology, and they showed me a world of, not low technology, or no technology.

Where people’s relationship with God, with the creation, and with one another was so intense that human beings controlled the weather of the planet. Not just for the welfare of human beings but for the welfare of the entire planet.

Everybody in the world was telepathically connected to everybody else in the whole world.

People raised food by simply, I don’t know, meditating or thinking about the food and the food would just grow. Then they would pick it and eat it. I mean, it was, you know, not instantaneous, but just happened before your eyes. I mean, a cabbage would grow from a seed to a full-blown cabbage in a matter of a few minutes.

People lived in small communities. People could move from community to community freely if they wanted to. Most people didn’t move around very much. Some communities put an emphasis on music, some communities put an emphasis on science, some communities put an emphasis on celebration; liturgy, worship. Some communities spent their time on physical relaxation and enjoyment, sports, that sort of thing. Some communities were very contemplative and did seemingly very little. Some communities were very active and sort of like were very much engaged with their environment. Sort of what we would call gardeners. But they were literally environmental sculptures. Making these very beautiful places with the vegetation and the geology around them.

I mean, different communities had different emphasis, but they lived in total harmony with the flora and the fauna around them. In complete harmony with one another. And the main emphasis of every community was the individuals in the community and most especially the children.

When people had experienced what they felt was their full life experience, there would be a great celebration, and they would lay down and they would die. And their souls, their spirits, whatever, would be raised up to heaven. Dying was not seen as a sad thing, or grievous thing. It was a joyous time. It was like it was celebrated as a birth.

People ate simply, dressed simply. From what I was shown there were no possessions other than the clothes on their back and a few simple instruments, like musical instruments or tools and things like that, which were pretty much shared communally.

It was a world that’s very difficult for me to make any sense of it because it’s like, you know, there was great happiness, there was very little suffering, there was no disease because people could heal with laying on of hands, people could heal diseases, immediately.

The only real suffering that they showed me was sometimes people felt a sense of separateness, and the community would allow these people to feel that, but they would pray for that person. They would surround that person with love and bring that person back into the community. So it was – it was possible for people to move a little bit away from the spirit of the community, but they were brought back into the community. No one was left; no one was ever lost for very long. It was important sometimes for people to feel, you know, to appreciate what they had they needed to, you know, lose a little bit of it once in a while.

The Spirit of Christ lived in every heart. Fully and completely. It’s a world that is so complete. Unlike the world that we live in. That, just how can we ever get there. But they showed me that this was the world that God envisioned for us and it’s not that far away.”

I do want to make a distinction here because I fully understand how certain aspects of the above testimony sounds eerily similar to the “great reset” agenda: “you will own nothing and you will be happy.” However, one thing that is a major staple in the eyes of the luciferians/satanists, are their attempts to subvert/invert every Christ-like ideology into one of a twisted, corrupted version as a prideful way to undermine God’s Divine plan and replace His Holy works with their own wicked ambition. Perhaps that is one goal of these “globalists”, in order to place themselves as “God of the world.”

And some may be afraid or disenchanted by the prospect of ‘no technology’, and while I can understand that up to a certain point, I believe that a closer understanding of materialism and the technocrats’ agenda helps those of us who are growing closer to God/Jesus Christ be able to accept this notion without much of a problem; though admittedly this is just my opinion.

Now, to compare some of the above testimonies, I wanted to bring up the Russian prophet Vyacheslav Krasheninnikov, as well as specific verses of the Bible.

This future vision of a “paradise” on Earth certainly seems to be the inevitable conclusion – even if we have to go through hardships and catastrophes to get there. Although it is my firm belief that we have been warned, time and time again, to change our ways from a sinful, wicked way of life – to that of love and goodwill for our fellow humankind.

Whichever way we choose, the “evil” will lose, and the just and righteous, the “meek”, will inherit the Earth.

Valentina Krasheninnikova @1:46:45: He said our planet will be like heaven when our Lord Jesus Christ comes to it. Judging by his description of our planet in those days, it seems that heaven looks just like it. Slavochka said God will replant paradise, and God-loyal people will help Him to do it. Slavochka said our planet will be totally safe for the living, and people will change.

About heaven he said that when the human soul goes there, the first thing she sees is the fluttering beautiful green grass with flowers. He gave more details but didn’t let to disclose them to people.

Slavochka said the Lord will restore the Earth. His Angels will fill the deep sinkholes with soil. Slavochka said the Angels will be carrying huge layers of soil across the sky, and if a human had seen that, it would have seemed to him that the soil is flying across the sky by itself. So they will fill up the sinkholes, the ground will be leveled out, and the Earth will be very beautiful and gorgeous, but different, he said, and people will be different. It will be safe to live on the planet. The water will be cleaned. He said it will be so clear, that every pebble will be visible on the bottom.

People will have other qualities; we will no longer be like we are now. Slavochka said people will not need any transportation on this renewed planet; it will not be needed at all. People will be moving around somehow, I did not ask how, at a very high speed, and the communication we are using now, the multitude of words, will not be needed anymore. People will understand one another perhaps even without words. In general, the planet with God will be safe and very beautiful: the air will be clean, the Earth will be beautiful, there will be no illnesses, and man will stay with God forever. The planet, as I understood Slavochka, will become a paradise.

Russian Angel Youth Vyacheslav film 1 part 3

Valentina Krasheninnikova (Vyacheslav [Slavochka] ]Krasheninnikov’s mother) @2:08:00: “Well, as far as I understood Slavochka, when the Lord Jesus Christ comes to Earth, the planet will be completely devastated. Then it will be restored by those who have survived and remained without the mark of the beast. They will be restoring the Earth together with the Lord. It will be the same way as stated in the Scriptures, “And the LORD God planted a garden”, meaning together with the Lord Jesus Christ the survivors will be planting trees on Earth. Slavochka said that they will be growing very quickly. The planet will be cleaned up and it will be beautiful. The Earth will become a Paradise.

Russian Angel Youth Vyacheslav Film 2 part 2

Valentina Krasheninnikova  @1:37:55: “It’s impossible to stop or change anything. Everything is settled in Heaven.” There will be a lot of angels on Earth soon; afterwards, the Lord will come. It was an absolute reality for him. Present, past, and future coexisted for him. He was able to live simultaneously at all times.”

Russian Angel Youth Vyacheslav Film 2 part 4

And now for scripture references, we have the following:

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”John 16:33

“Then the seventh angel sounded; and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ; and He will reign forever and ever.”Revelation 11:15

“A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,
or decide by what he hears with his ears;
but with righteousness he will judge the needy,
with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.
He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth;
with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.
Righteousness will be his belt
and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together;
and a little child will lead them.
The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
The infant will play near the cobra’s den,
and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.
They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.”
Isaiah 11:1-9

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:3-10

“Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”Revelation 21:1-5

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.2 Peter 3:10-13

“Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.2 Peter 3:17-18

Will we see this in our lifetime? Some certainly do think so. However, we must always be reminded that: But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”Matthew 24:36

There is indeed a Light at the end of the tunnel. While we do not know how long it will take to get there, this is God’s plan for us which will end the suffering, end the wickedness and strife, end the horrors of abuse and corruption.

Now the question is whether we’re a part of that abusive, corrupt system or not, and if we decide to follow Jesus Christ and His teachings. Will we be prepared for when this mysterious time comes and be ready for the Divine Judgement? Be ready to enter this New Heaven on Earth?

Or will we mimic the unbelievers’ behavior in 2 Peters 3:3-4: Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised?and lose our place in this new blessed kingdom?

I pray every day and night for Jesus Christ to return. And I pray for our salvation and for people to turn away from their wicked deeds and turn to the one true Light.

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus1 Timothy 2:1-5

Much love and God bless.

Genesis 15: God’s Covenant with Abram

Earnest Examination

This series is presented as an honest, sincere look into the study of the Bible with my own personal theories, opinions, comments and that of others’ insights and research into what the verses could mean. I cannot claim one way or another that everything that I am stating is fact and the true meaning of what is meant in these verses.

To lay it out in a way that I can manage, I have highlighted the texts of verses that I either don’t understand or have a comment or question about in yellow. And the comments I’ve left beneath it will be of a smaller font and using brown text.

I would love it if you’d join me in this journey and if you have any insights and/or knowledge of these chapters/verses etc., please feel free to share with me and the other readers. Any chance to get a clearer understanding of the Bible and Jesus Christ would be welcomed with open arms.

Version used is from (KJV) Genesis 15

1 After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”
I want to point out the small phrase, “in a vision”. What does this mean, exactly? “In a vision” doesn’t necessarily imply “in a dream”. Was Abram fully awake during this vision? Was he daydreaming? Prophesying? Actually dreaming? Was it a vision in a dream? And how did Abram know that this vision was from the Lord? Did he test this vision? Or just accept it as coming from the Lord? I only pursue this question because we are always told to test spirits, test visions, discern… so that we may not be led astray. Am I implying that Abram possibly was seeing visions from a different entity? Well, I’m not exactly implying anything, but I am attempting to shed light on this matter that to be discerning means to question and search for the Truth, however uncomfortable it may be. And it is my effort to find out if Abram KNEW, from every fiber of his being, if this vision truly came from God or was he being deceived.
2 But Abram said, “Lord God, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”
…I also wonder about bloodlines, which is clearly what is meant in this verse. Abram is concerned about preserving his bloodline… although, if we take the creation account to heart, then we are all born of Adam and Eve – again, if there’s nothing more to this account – and so the specific pursuit to carry on one’s own bloodline is a fascinating subject to me. Even back then there was so much separation and animosity, quite possibly due to the separation at the Tower of Babel (although even within Cain and Abel’s own family there was already strife and conflict) created families who considered themselves separate from everyone else. It’s interesting and makes me wonder if there’s something more to this history than what most of us were/are led to believe.
3 Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!”
How important is “blood”? Is it about the blood? The DNA? The questions I’m wondering is, why was Abram chosen to be the “people of God”? I haven’t been able to study the Talmud, the Q’uran, Kabbalah, Testament of Abraham, the Ugaritic texts, etc. and it is something that I definitely want to look into in order to get a broader picture of who Abraham is and his descendants. Since Abraham is widely believed to be the line of the C”hosen Ones”, I feel it’s important to find out how, why, for what purpose, etc., etc.
According to this verse, no other bloodline is going to cut it. His adopted son does not suffice. So why is Abraham’s line so important? Why was he chosen?

4 And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.”
5 Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”
6 And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
7 Then He said to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.”
8 And he said, “Lord God, how shall I know that I will inherit it?”

This is interesting as well, because while the Lord God promised Abram the whole world, basically, Jesus Christ’s teachings is to “come out of this world” and inherit the kingdom of God (Heaven). So I find the stark contrast between these two teachings as very intriguing and worth further consideration.
9 So He said to him, “Bring Me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”
10 Then he brought all these to Him and cut them in two, down the middle, and placed each piece opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds in two.

These verses confuse me even more. So the Lord God told Abram to bring Him all of these animals, with no further context to it, but then in the very next verse Abram takes it upon himself to cut them in half and place each piece opposite the other. …Am I missing something here? Is this some kind of ritualistic sacrifice? How does Abram come to the conclusion that this is the act that he must do when God told him to bring those animals to Him? Is it the act of bringing death upon the animals is symbolic of bringing the animals to God? And even if so, why do it in such a specific manner as to cut them in half? And why not the birds? Do these questions get answered in other texts or further verses/chapters of the Bible? This just seems very strange to me and screams of ritualistic sacrifice. Perhaps akin to witchcraft.
Is that blasphemous? Or am I just stating a well-earned speculation that Abram’s actions may be paganistic? It is not my intention to condemn or blaspheme the word of God, but only to raise much needed questions and consideration of the texts and belief structures that it proposes. I am a believer in God and Jesus Christ, and the pursuit of Truth. “Truth” does not mean to blindly listen to certain texts/words/teachings of others, but to sincerely study and learn our surroundings and pray for insight so that we may not be led astray. That is what I am attempting to do.

11 And when the vultures came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.
12 Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him.
…Hm… this lends further credence that the act that Abram performed may have been ritualistic in nature. What is this “horror and great darkness” that fell upon him? Demonic, perhaps?
Not to mention, in some other translations of this verse, they don’t say “a deep sleep” fell upon Abram:

“12 And when the sun was gone down, dread felled on Abram, and a great hideousness and dark assailed him. (And as the sun went down, fear fell upon Abram, and a great dark hideousness assailed him.)”Wycliffe Bible

Sometimes I refer back to the Wycliffe version, since it seems to be the earliest English translation there is, and in his version it does not say that Abram fell into a deep sleep, but rather that dread and fear fell upon him. And the term “assail”, at least in today’s time, implies that he was attacked by this “great dark hideousness”.
13 Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years.
14 And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions.

So I’m trying to understand the transition of these past few verses. I can infer a few speculations (but I suppose ‘speculations’ they will remain):

1. The horror and great darkness that befell Abram was the entity that has been speaking to Abram as the word of the Lord. Assailing Abram with his power? His authority? Physically assaulting Abram? Maybe… spiritually?
2. The horror and great darkness was an inclination, a gut feeling, that something bad will happen – follow that up with the Lord saying that his descendants will be in trouble for a few years may have given him this fear/dread. Certainly very likely. Although it doesn’t seem to explain the term “assailed” that was originally used as the translation.
3. Perhaps because of the Lord gifting Abram and his descendants with the land and various possessions, it made the dark entities jealous and wrathful – therefore the darkness is the acknowledgement that Abram’s descendants will go through some hardships in order to rise above these dark entities and inherit the land.

Now, this brings me again to the land and the possessions. I can’t help but keep going back to Jesus Christ’s teachings that worldly possessions mean NOTHING in the eyes of the Lord. In fact, he teaches that those who have riches and wealth and all these possessions are on the WRONG PATH to Heaven. Yet in these biblical teachings, Abram has been chosen to inherit the land and the riches in them. …Am I the only one who doesn’t quite understand this dichotomy? But then I am also reminded of the verse in Matthew 5 where it says that the meek shall inherit the Earth. So here we have Abram and his descendants, being promised inherited land and wealth/possessions, and then here’s Jesus saying that the meek will inherit the land. Are Abram and his descendants meek? Did Jesus offer up sacrifices to God to earn His good graces? Am I speaking out of turn and just not understanding the symbolic or universal workings of the world?

15 Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age.
16 But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.”
17 And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces.
More interesting implications here, that seem to point to Abram performing a ritualistic spell and/or sacrifice. I know I may get pushback against this speculation, but again, it is NOT to offend anyone. It is only to offer up what an honest look into these verses may provoke in someone who hasn’t studied the Bible and other texts extensively and who is on a sincere path to understanding the Bible and its teachings. From an unbiased and subjective look into these verses, it seems as if Abram is performing witchcraft. Perhaps that is just how people worshipped back in those days, and I can somewhat understand that. And perhaps that is why Jesus Christ came to begin with, to show us that we no longer (or have ever) need to perform these rituals and instead look to being kind and loving to one another and believe in Him to have everlasting life. Of course, that doesn’t explain why this Lord at this time asked to have certain animals brought to him, and doesn’t explain how Abram knew how to set up this altar of sorts.
And speaking of this altar, where did this “smoking oven” and the “burning torch” come from? And it just so happened to ceremoniously pass in between the cut pieces of the animals… It seems quite obvious that this was on purpose and that Abram knew to do this. But how? Who taught him to offer up these animals to the Lord in this manner? And what is the smoking oven that just allegedly appeared out of nowhere? It does not do my peace of mind well to make this connection to Moloch, a terrible deity who is often portrayed as having a furnace or oven for a stomach in which to throw sacrifices into – sacrifices that tragically included (includes?) babies/children. Take another translation from Wycliffe, for example:

“17 Therefore when the sun was gone down, a dark mist was made, and a furnace smoking appeared, and a lamp of fire, and (it) passed through those partings. (And when the sun had gone down, a dark mist came, and a smoking furnace appeared, and a lamp of fire which passed between the pieces of the animals.)”

This is extremely suspicious to me. And I feel rather at odds because as far as I’ve researched, I have not come across a lot of sources making this connection. Am I completely in the wrong here? Why am I having this red flag when it comes to this sacrificial act and the “dark mist” and oven/furnace that just so happened to appear (manifest?) out of nowhere to “pass (collect?)” these sacrifices? I am actually quite perplexed that I don’t see many references to this as even being a possibility. I can’t be the only one who finds these texts suspicious…
18 On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates—
19 the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites,
20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,
21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”

I know sometimes it would seem as if I’m questioning the veracity of the Bible’s origins, and while that may be true in some sense, it is not meant to presume, condemn, or ridicule, and certainly not meant to certify the propositions I set forth. And I definitely don’t mean to insult or offend anyone, especially not God. It is only to get a clearer understanding of the meanings of the Bible, and the possibility that during so many transitions and translation efforts, and perhaps intentional/unintentional mishandling and misinterpretations, that the Truth along the way may have been concealed more than we’d like.

And as usual, I want to reiterate that some of my thoughts and theories may be way off base, and I also research some other things on the side as well to try and get a broader understanding of what I’m reading, so please bear with me, or, even better, if you have insights that bring more light to these verses, please let me know.

I enjoy bouncing off theories and theology off of each other and love to hear other people’s perspectives on things. Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing from you!

Fact checking is extremely important. I want to reiterate not to take everything at face value; no matter what you read, where you read it from, or who you hear it from. And to be clear, do not rely on “fact checking” websites to give you accurate information either. These are just as likely, (if not even more likely…), to feed false information and false debunking accounts to manipulate the reader. Please take everything into consideration before adhering to a certain narrative – and always keep your mind open to other possibilities.
