Genesis 12: The Call of Abram

Earnest Examination

This series is presented as an honest, sincere look into the study of the Bible with my own personal theories, opinions, comments and that of others’ insights and research into what the verses could mean. I cannot claim one way or another that everything that I am stating is fact and the true meaning of what is meant in these verses.

To lay it out in a way that I can manage, I have highlighted the texts of verses that I either don’t understand or have a comment or question about in yellow. And the comments I’ve left beneath it will be of a smaller font and using brown text.

I would love it if you’d join me in this journey and if you have any insights and/or knowledge of these chapters/verses etc., please feel free to share with me and the other readers. Any chance to get a clearer understanding of the Bible and Jesus Christ would be welcomed with open arms.

Version used is from biblestudytools.com (NKJV) Genesis 12

The Call of Abram

1 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.
2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
This verse seems like a contradiction to me. First it says that “I will bless those who bless you”, and then, “I will curse him who curses you”, yet in the very next section it states, “and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” …Doesn’t the last part of the sentence cancel out the first portion? Unless EVERYONE blesses Abram, then not all of the families on earth will be blessed. So this sounds a little confusing to me.
4 So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
5 Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan.
6 Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, as far as the terebinth tree of Moreh. And the Canaanites were then in the land.
7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
8 And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.
9 So Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South.

Abram in Egypt

10 Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there, for the famine was severe in the land.
11 And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “Indeed I know that you are a woman of beautiful countenance.
12 Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live.
I don’t understand the customs of each nation, but it’s interesting that Abram’s first instinct is that the Egyptians will kill him presumably to steal his wife from him. It’s also interesting to note that Abram is very well aware of his wife’s beauty, and it’s for this reason that he feels as if he would be looked at in hostility by the Egyptians simply for being the husband of a “beautiful” woman.
It’s also very telling that even during the birth of all the nations, that physical looks has so much influence on people’s lives. No one can help how they are born and what physical features they’re born with (or can they…?) so to automatically judge someone based on their looks seems like such a strange concept to me. Of course, if one were inclined to believe that to be born with physical beauty is a ‘blessing from the gods’ or good karma, etc. then I can see why people would feel as if “beautiful” people are blessed – but as we can see in today’s society, this is most certainly NOT TRUE, as even some of the most beautiful people are corrupted to the core. So it all boils down to what is aesthetically pleasing in someone’s eyes, and that they could ultimately care less what kind of personality the person has, as long as they’re beautiful.
This is, of course, not speaking for everyone, but just a mentality that some people hold.

13 Please say you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you.”
Was this plan strictly coming from Abram? Was he going with his gut instinct? It seemed to work well, in the end, but it would be nice to know where this intuition came from. A voice outside of his own being? His own conscience? The Lord Himself? Well, it’s probably not the Lord since if it was so, then that would imply that the Lord directly told Abram to lie, and that’s not righteous or holy, correct? God is Truth, so it wouldn’t make sense for Him to guide someone else into lying.
14 So it was, when Abram came into Egypt, that the Egyptians saw the woman, that she was very beautiful.
15 The princes of Pharaoh also saw her and commended her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken to Pharaoh’s house.
16 He treated Abram well for her sake. He had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male and female servants, female donkeys, and camels.
Wow, so just because someone’s ‘sibling’ is BEAUTIFUL, they get to be treated like a “king” just to remain in good standing with the person they potentially want to pursue relationships with. Is that really what natural selection dictates? Do we not care what character a person has, but instead put all (most?) of our emphasis on looks?
17 But the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.
So… I have a bone to pick with our Lord. It is apparent that the Lord can dictate to whom He sends curses and plagues down into. He aimed deliberately for Pharaoh’s kingdom and his house, all because Abram lied to the Pharaoh about Sarai being his sister instead of his wife and that Pharaoh made an honest mistake. According to this account. So here’s the clueless Pharaoh, not even realizing why he’s being plagued (and I’m not stating that the Pharaoh is completely innocent in this dealing, by the way, because like Abram stated, perhaps they really would have killed him if they had known right away that he was Sarai’s husband) and it makes me wonder how much the Pharaoh believes in the same Lord that Abram does.
So my problem with this ordeal is that for God to initiate this very targeted attack on the Pharaoh for picking on His blessed family, it implies that God can do this to whomever He wants, whenever He wants, and for whatever reason He wants. So to still allow incredibly evil acts to run rampant instead of ‘smiting’ or sending down plagues against corrupted individuals, when they do TRULY awful things, is a very severe oversight and the reason for a lot of people not believing in God. I went through this very same phase when I was younger, thinking that if God exists, how could He allow such evil to continue? Of course, we don’t know all the mysteries and plans involved in this strange world and in our lives, and that ‘free will’ plays a huge part in the way our world is run, but for an almighty God to literally send plagues to an Egyptian ruler simply because he was misled in believing that a particular woman is single, meanwhile millions of kids are starving to death and being sold/trafficked to truly horrendous people – the comparison doesn’t even make sense.

18 And Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife?
19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’? I might have taken her as my wife. Now therefore, here is your wife; take her and go your way.”

Even though lying is technically wrong, and satan himself is called Father of Lies, I’m wondering if there is truly a distinction between lying to manipulatively deceive someone, and lying for ‘the better good’. Abram’s lie was to protect himself because he knew, somehow, that he would be on the chopping block if the Egyptians realized that he was Sarai’s husband. And in so doing, he was also protecting Sarai from being kidnapped, essentially, to an unknown life that she may not be accustomed to or appreciate. So it does bring up the question if it’s ever okay to lie.
Some people bring up the fact that one of the 10 commandments is “Thou shall not lie”, but that’s not exactly what it says or implies. The actual commandment is, “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor”. Meaning we shouldn’t slander or lie about our neighbor’s (fellow peoples) deeds. However, since Jesus Christ is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life”, it goes without saying that probably the best way to maintain righteousness is to stay in Truth. After all, if Abram was already being looked out for by God Himself, then Abram very well could have told the truth that he is Sarai’s husband, and no matter what the Egyptians tried to do to him, it wouldn’t pan out for them anyway.

20 So Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they sent him away, with his wife and all that he had.

This was a very interesting look into the relationship between God and Abram, and how much the Lord really did to protect Abram and Sarai from possible subjugation of the Egyptians. It does bring up to question though if God still works this way on a personal level like He did back in these biblical times. And if He is working this way, perhaps many of us just don’t know about it.

As usual, I want to reiterate that some of my thoughts and theories may be way off base, and I also research some other things on the side as well to try and get a broader understanding of what I’m reading, so please bear with me, or, even better, if you have insights that bring more light to these verses, please let me know.

I enjoy bouncing off theories and theology off of each other and love to hear other people’s perspectives on things. Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing from you!

Fact checking is extremely important. I want to reiterate not to take everything at face value; no matter what you read, where you read it from, or who you hear it from. And to be clear, do not rely on “fact checking” websites to give you accurate information either. These are just as likely, (if not even more likely…), to feed false information and false debunking accounts to manipulate the reader. Please take everything into consideration before adhering to a certain narrative – and always keep your mind open to other possibilities.

Modern Day Heroes: Kari Lake, Daniel Thompson, Myanmar Journalists

Earning Admiration and Respect (pt. 2)

Along with exposing lies, corruption and hypocrisy on this website, I also think it’s necessary to address the opposite side of the spectrum. The people who stand up for what they believe in, who tell the truth, and who truly care about people.

We can’t forget that there are still people doing the right thing, and that they are fighting for the good of the world.

This second part of this series takes a look at three people/groups that deserve incredible recognition for their integrity and moral ethics, and the bravery and steadfast resolution to stand up for their beliefs and values, even in the midst of extreme adverse establishments. Their belief into upholding honorable conduct in light of bringing truth and news to the public compelled them to quit their job in journalism when it became clear that the industry is more interested in reporting negativity, controversy, and outright lies – or, hiding the truth altogether.

Thank you to the following people for having the courage to speak out on this egregious agenda.

1. Kari Lake (Fox 10 Phoenix News Anchor)

You can also check out Kari Lake’s personal tweet announcing her resignation (showing the same video as above) here, as well as showing tons of supportive comments. Thank goodness there are people who realize what the news media establishments are up to, and that there are people like Kari Lake and others that have had enough and refuse to be a part of it any longer.

A common theme, throughout most of the controversy surrounding media journalism, is the left and right dichotomy that is pervading the United States.

As Kari Lake illuminates, Sadly, journalism has changed a lot since I first stepped into a newsroom, and I’ll be honest, I don’t like the direction its going. The media needs more balance in coverage and a wider range of viewpoints represented in every newsroom at every level and at each position.

Kari went on, stating: “In the past few years, I haven’t felt proud to be a member of the media. I’m sure there are other journalists out there who feel the same way. I found myself reading news copy that I didn’t believe was fully truthful, or only told part of the story.

And I began to feel that I was contributing to the fear and division in this country by continuing on in this profession.

An event in 2019 between the Fox 10 Phoenix News station and Kari Lake’s reference to Parler on her Twitter account caused backlash as the station urged Kari to remove her connection with Parler. Since Parler is accused of being a “far-right” haven, of course anyone in the msm can’t have anyone with even the most miniscule connection to it. Understandably, this upset Kari and she was caught on video expressing her frustration at this obvious sign of suppressing people’s individuality and differing points of views. It may have been this, as well as other injustices like it, that ultimately culminated and led to the emmy-award winner resigning.

Local News Anchor Demonized Merely for Joining Parler

Kari Lake has been a news anchor for Fox 10 for over 20 years, and in so doing earned the number-one spot alongside her co-host several times. Those are very large shoes to fill, and I can only hope that the “replacement” that Fox hires holds themselves to the same high degree that Kari herself has shown by refusing to participate with corrupt media reporting. But with all the “yes-people” willing to sell their own soul for money and/or fame, we can only hope that more and more people wake up to what’s been going on and finally realize that the news is meant to manipulate and control what people think; and I hope more in this field will follow in Kari Lake’s footsteps and do what’s right for humanity.

Thank you Kari for taking a stand and leaving this twisted corporate mentality.

2. Daniel Thompson (Former Editor from the Kenosha News)

Daniel Thompson shows the huge heart and compassion he has, not only for the family of Jacob Blake, a man who was shot 7 times by police, but also that of his whole community – and thereby the whole world.

The details surrounding the shooting is unclear (although you can hear a recount from Jacob Blake himself, here) as is usually what happens when dishonest, biased media reports and news stations are on the loose and geared to swaying public opinion. But the detrimental effect of this mass media manipulation of the public became a front-row seat for Mr. Thompson, who was actually at one of the rallies honoring Jacob Blake.

After witnessing many heartwarming speeches from people calling for peaceful protests and unity, including from Jacob Blake’s own father, Daniel Thompson was dismayed to see the one headline his own news platform decided to run with: “WATCH NOW: Kenosha Speaker: ‘If you kill one of us, it’s time for us to kill one of yours.” The Kenosha News media decided to highlight the ONE speech that an unknown speaker made, literally “inciting violence” as the main take away from the otherwise beautiful and touching rally.

It was this blatant attempt at influencing people’s thoughts to the side of division and negativity instead of showing the main message of peace and love that struck a chord with Thompson and spurred him to take the matter up with the Kenosha News Executive Editor Bob Heisse.

“Thompson said he messaged Kenosha News Executive Editor Bob Heisse to strongly express that the headline needed to be changed. According to a text message exchange from Saturday that Thompson posted on Facebook, Heisse at the paper urged him to “calm down” citing the quote as a “threat and an exact quote” that was “totally on message with the rally.”

Thompson later resigned, saying the headline did not reflect the otherwise peaceful message from Saturday’s rally.

“I have officially resigned from the Kenosha News effective immediately because of this headline and response from my boss,” Thompson wrote. “I can stand for being unemployed. I cannot stand for this.”

“Today is not my day, I did what I did because today is about Jacob Blake and his family, it’s about moving forward together peacefully and I saw that today,” Thompson said in a video he posted on Facebook over the weekend. “And that headline did not reflect it. And when they refused to change it, I quit.”

Kenosha News Editor Resigns Over ‘Damaging’ Jacob Blake Headline

This is absolutely beautiful and amazing that Daniel Thompson was so touched by what he saw at the rally, so much so that when his own news platform depicted (and highlighted) the one mar throughout the whole event, it stirred him to quit when they wouldn’t change the headline to encompass what really happened. And even though the speech of revenge and negativity did happen and should be reported on as well, it should not have been the main focus of the rally.

After Daniel Thompson quit, the Kenosha News platform did indeed change the headline to “WATCH NOW: Kenosha speaker strays from message at rally” It’s so sad that it took an honest, morally ethic journalist to quit before a change for the better could be made.

Thank you so much to Daniel, for being one of the few brave ones to stick to your values and care enough about fellow people to do so.

3. Myanmar Members and Journalists from the Myanmar Press Council and The Myanmar Times

The rights of personal freedom and even our own opinions are being infringed upon and is under attack.

In stark contrast to the events that unfolded before Daniel Thompson’s eyes of unity and peace, and an effort of his publication to highlight the hostility of one person, Myanmar is doing the exact opposite – instructing the journalists and reporters to avoid certain words like “coup” or “regime” that would paint the Myanmar military in a negative light, and instead use terms such as “transfer of power” and “chair of the State Administrative Council”; deliberately taking away the rights of the journalists to give an honest account of what’s really happening.

In addition to that, there is also the push for a “cyber bill” that will allow the military to arrest individuals for going against the narrative of the establishment, and give them the ability to block access to certain websites.

The Myanmar Press Council last week had condemned the draft cyber bill that would give the military access to user data and the power to block websites and jail critics.  In its statement, the press council called the law unconstitutional and said it would obstruct journalists’ ability to report.
Myanmar Press Council Members Resign Over Military Directives

Due to these outrageous efforts, according to this article “Myanmar Journalists Leave Jobs in Face of Military Regime Restrictions on Media Freedom, eleven members of the Myanmar Press Council and more than a dozen journalists and The Myanmar Times left their jobs in the face of new restrictions by the military regime that threaten media freedom.

While it is commendable that these individuals refuse to be a part of this oppressive “transfer of power”, and I applaud them for their integrity to do so – it sets a dangerous precedent, since if all of the honest, morally ethical journalists are leaving these establishments, it leaves the news platforms wide-open to hiring only “yes-people” who will fall in line no matter what rules they enforce.

And this, I surmise, is exactly their plan. The msm and news platforms only want “journalists” who will read out from a script and mislead the public stance on whatever they dictate. They don’t want people who can think for themselves and they don’t want ethically honest individuals because that will conflict with their extremely biased narratives.

This agenda is extremely important to realize so that people around the world will understand that the news has been compromised and corrupted to suit only those who would benefit from the reports. (Hint: it’s not the average citizen.) And in so doing, REFUSE to watch these one-sided, obviously tainted messages – or at least, watch it with a discerning eye and realize that most of these establishments are pushing an agenda, and be wise enough to spot it.

The brave members at Myanmar Press Council and the journalists at The Myanmar Times who have quit their positions in light of this dictatorship, deserve recognition and accolades for exemplifying truth and integrity in refusing to participate in their tyrannical scheme.

Regardless of one’s political affiliation, the fact that there is clearly a biased agenda unfolding before our eyes, has thankfully reached these journalists; and also with large thanks, they have the courage to announce it and leave this oppressive regime, even at the cost of their career and reputation.

They are brave, concerned citizens reaching out to the population to open their eyes and look at the bigger picture of what’s going on.

These are the people who deserve respect and esteemed recognition. Not corrupt government officials or the media giants or celebrities who peddle around the same narrative over and over to coerce (and threaten and demoralize) anyone who doesn’t fall in line; and certainly not all the yes-people that simply follow the narrative even though they know it’s wrong.

I want to give a personal, heartfelt thank you to everyone standing up for these injustices and corruption, and having the conscious fortitude to stay strong even in the line of what seems to be the majority and risking ridicule and scorn from the immoral establishment.

I also want to give thanks and credit to the following links for covering these subjects in detail, and give them high accolades for not shying away from these topics even though the msm and social media giants have attacked anyone who has dared to go against their own biased “news reporting”.

(Although there are many independent websites, bloggers, reporters etc. who are addressing these matters, the below links are what is covered in this post and who are repeatedly covering this important information to unravel these controversial events. Thank you to every website who is offering honest and upfront material instead of spreading the propaganda and biased narrative of the msm and their partners.)

Thank you for your reporting and coverage!

Is God calling out to you? | If not, are you SURE?

And if so, are you heeding His call?

“For many are called, but few are chosen.”
Matthew 22:14

For those of you who aren’t aware of The Parable of the Wedding Feast (Matthew 22:1-14), it gives the readers a tale of a king inviting people to a huge wedding banquet (meant to depict the Lord inviting people to the kingdom of Heaven) and while the people who were invited were called upon to attend, none of them responded. Some were even indignant at the servants who were trying to give them the message to attend; so much so that these incensed people even killed the messenger. Literally.

After finding none of the people who were invited worthy to attend the banquet, the king then had his servants call to anybody and everybody who was willing to attend, both the bad and the good, and see who graciously came.

So the hall was filled with guests, yet there was one man who did not have the proper attire (a metaphor for not attending the kingdom with a pure intention), and so he was cast out.

Now throughout my life, and I would surmise yours too, there have been random encounters with “messengers” who have tried to steer me in the direction of the Lord. Yes, it included several different religions, including but definitely not limited to: Jehovah’s Witness, Catholic Church, other different non-denominational and denominational factions, etc. There have even been individuals who have asked if they could pray over me, not under any certain religious motivation, just from an honest perspective of wanting to pray for someone in the name of the Lord.

And again, I wonder if the same applies to everyone at least once in their life. (Of course, implying when one grows up into teen/adulthood and can understand this concept –  not indicating babies and young children that won’t quite understand this subject matter.)

My point is, I think we’re ALL called, whether some people realize it or not. Perhaps some will be called by others doing their brotherly/sisterly duties as a fellow human being, wanting to give people the “good news” that the Lord saves. Perhaps the call will be more personal, like a “divine” encounter of some sort, or even a strange “coincidental” incident that would be too hard to explain logically. Maybe the call will be more prominent, like a near death experience that jolts people into realizing the true purpose of life.

Has any of the below “callings” happened to you?

Fellow Messengers:

There are many testimonies of people who have been called to Jesus Christ through other people. And this heartfelt ministering (even if caught completely off-guard in a twisted turn of events) can have a life-altering effect.

Take the events surrounding Denzil Moses, an ex-gang leader who, after attempting to hijack a car, ended up being ministered to by the driver of the car.

The driver of the car, even in the face of a dangerous criminal, was able to look past that and see him as a fellow human being. It was this compassionate view, instead of showing fear, and his trust and faith in Jesus Christ, that startled Denzil so much that he wanted to know who this person was and why he wasn’t afraid of a tough gang leader. The driver stated that he was a child of Christ, and that God loves Denzil – no matter who he is, and this compelled Denzil to pray with the driver to be forgiven and to turn to Christ; even while he was pointing a gun at the driver’s head.

After this moment, Denzil states that he was a changed man, and he now works to bring light and truth to the drug dealers and gang leaders/members in his community, to try and help them find God and walk away from the dark corruption they were living in.

Saved by the young messenger in the car, Denzil is now a messenger himself; calling out to more fellow people to follow the ways of Jesus Christ.

Divine Encounter

In Elaine’s testimony, she describes her spiritual beliefs and how hard it was for her to overcome the New Age teachings in order to fully embrace the teachings of Christ.

Throughout all of her doubts and questions, and even living with a Christian husband and children, it wasn’t until the Holy Spirit came upon her that she was able to finally put her alternative beliefs aside.

“And remember that New Agers think that the world is evolving to perfection? Well, I also started to realize that the world was not getting better. That it is, in fact, really broken for some reason. In contrast to the brokenness of this world and the people in it, I started to see that God’s nature is holy and I started to realize that no one else is like him except Jesus.

At this time, the Holy Spirit was also getting through to me that I am not perfect and my concepts of perfection are not God’s concepts. Nice and good are not the same thing.

In the winter of 2008, my husband had to do extensive business travel, coming home only on weekends. It was during this time that the Holy Spirit led me through some good Christian books, one specifically on forgiveness. I was finally recognizing my own sin and I felt incredibly convicted.

It was at the Holy Spirit’s urging, a pressing not from me, that I was able to let go of the last “stronghold” of my New Age belief system, which was my belief in reincarnation.

I think it’s very interesting how she mentions “at the Holy Spirit’s urging, a pressing not from me” – I definitely understand how this feels as a similar occurrence happened to me when I was younger. Without wanting to sound “insane”, it is a very jarring experience when you have a sudden thought that you know is not your own. The only thing I could conclude is that it was a different entity trying to get my attention.

Needless to say, it worked. And I’m glad it worked for Elaine and cemented her belief and acceptance of Jesus Christ.

Quiet Reflection

Who said a calling to God has to be a huge affair or with extraordinary pomp and circumstance?

It could be something from within; a small, still voice or urge from your conscience that leads you to the right path.

So from 22 onward, I had begun searching for answers.

At first, I tried man-made solutions. I investigated various ideologies and pursued numerous ideas but nothing seemed perfect. There always seemed to be at least one aspect of each one that I didn’t agree with.

I became hazily aware that I was leaving religion on the table until other options had been exhausted. I eventually became suspicious as to why my brain seemed to be avoiding the topic. So, one day I took a walk down to the Fulham Road to browse through a bookshop. There, I found a King James Bible. I flicked through it for maybe 20 minutes or half an hour, then put it back. I remembered this book from my childhood, when I had received a portion of it at school. I then put it back on the shelf and left.

THAT WAS IT. That was the biggest defining moment of my life. It doesn’t sound like much, does it? However, Jesus has had a profound influence on my life since then.

A few weeks later, I went back to purchase that Bible. I took it home and attempted to read it but it was hard-going. I decided to focus on keeping the Ten Commandments. So, began my walk with the Lord.

The Day I Turned to God: How my faith changed my life.

This is incredible because it came from an unknown prompt – something compelled him to look towards the Bible as the possible solution, even after deliberately putting the idea on the back-burner as a last resort. And after that seed was planted, it grew and blossomed into the good fruit that’s pleasing to the Lord. And what ultimately led him to his path with Christ.

A Call From God

Not sure if this is an actual story or just a parable, but a very amusing tale none-the-less:

One Saturday night, a pastor was working late and decided to call his wife before he left for home. It was about 10:00 PM, but his wife didn’t answer the phone. The pastor let it ring many times. He thought it was odd that she didn’t answer but decided to wrap up a few things and try again in a few minutes. When he tried again, she answered right away. He asked her why she hadn’t answered before, and she said that it hadn’t rung at their house. They brushed it off as a fluke and went on their merry ways.

The following Monday, the pastor received a call at the church office, which was the phone that he’d used that Saturday night. The man that he spoke with wanted to know why he’d called on Saturday night. The pastor couldn’t figure out what the man was talking about.

Then the man said, “It rang and rang, but I didn’t answer.”

The pastor remembered the mishap and apologized for disturbing him, explaining that he’d intended to call his wife.

The man said, “That’s okay. Let me tell you my story. You see, I was planning to commit suicide on Saturday night, but before I did, I prayed, ‘God if you’re there, and you don’t want me to do this, give me a sign now.’ At that point, my phone started to ring. I looked at the caller ID, and it said, ‘Almighty God’. I was afraid to answer!”

The church that the pastor attends is called Almighty God Tabernacle.

Multiple Callings

Sometimes (often?) God calls multiple times, in different ways.

David Sorenson writes in this post: My encounter with God… Amazing testimony! about his adoration, and then breakaway, from the Lord.

As a young child, he would often be found on his knees, praying to God, all by himself. He even ministered to his own mother, “You need to pray more.” At nine, he wanted to be a missionary and tell people all about God.

However, as he got older, hardships and turmoil began to take its toll on his love for God, and out of rebellion and a desire to be tougher than the environment around him, he turned to dark habits to fill the void in his life.

He relays how after one especially brutal encounter with a drug overdose, the panic reached him and, with his mother’s help, he was brought back to God.

This started a personal relationship with God, with actual audible callings from Him to lead David in how to serve the Lord. David was able to open himself to reject the harsh lifestyle he found himself in, and humble himself to accepting the Love and Forgiveness that Jesus Christ offers.

Glimpse of the Other Side

I have mentioned Howard Storm multiple times on this site, mostly because his near death experience is detailed and thorough, covering a lot of bases, and is also very enlightening and touching. His is a testimony worth repeating, with a lot of important insights into the human condition and spirit.

What starts out as an out of body experience after passing out from stomach perforation pain, Howard Storm soon finds himself following unfamiliar beings down a long, gray tunnel; which slowly turns into a harrowing, tortuous ordeal as Howard Storm realizes that he has been misled by terrible demonic creatures.

With nowhere left to turn, Howard hears a tiny voice within him telling him to “Pray to God”. Thus begins Howard Storm’s journey into really knowing and having a relationship with God. You can read about his incredible testimony here:

or check out this video (I started the video at around 35 minutes in for a real pertinent part, but the whole video is relevant and emotionally stirring):

There are many more ways that the Lord calls out to us. In dreams/visions, a specific song or book – playing/displaying seemingly just for you, an answer to a prayer, random epiphany out of nowhere, etc.

Regardless of the method(s), my theory is that we’re ALL called at some point(s) in our life, and the question is, are we going to HEED this call, or ignore it?

Are we going to reply to God’s calling with, “Not now. Ask me later.” so that we can resume our life without guilt or shame and only respond when we’re “good and ready”? (If it’s not too late by then…) Are we going to reply at all?

Are we going to let “pride” win and harden our hearts to the belief that ‘there is no God’ and that whatever this “calling” is, is simply a coincidence and nothing significant behind it?

Lastly, if none of the above has ever applied to you: if you did not hear the voice of God calling out to you, if you have never had a near death experience or similar pointing you in the direction of Jesus Christ or God and Heaven, if you have never had a strange encounter or coincidence leading you to seek the kingdom of God, if you have never had someone individually ask to pray over you and ask you to respond with an open-heart to the possibility of Jesus Christ being the Way, the Truth, and the Life, then consider this post, me, calling out to you now and inviting you to be a part of Love and Compassion that Jesus Christ was trying to teach the world.

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
2 Peter 3:9

God does indeed love you and each and every one of us, and it is not His desire to see any of us perish. Which is why He has given us many chances to repent and turn away from sin. All we need to do is accept Him in our life and sincerely love Him and others – as was Jesus Christ’s last commandments:
“30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

This is the most important commandment because if we just followed these simple life rules, then we would not want to sin in our deeds or against our fellow people. And we would be able to raise our spiritual inclination and our vibration to reach that of Heaven; and hopefully bring others with us.

I have now, as a servant of God, officially called out to you to invite you to the kingdom of Heaven. Will you attend with a pure and humble heart? Or will you cast this message aside and resume your worldly life?

Love to you all, and I hope and pray that more and more people will heed His call.
